(Clearwisdom.net) Prior to the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG), and more than 300 political leaders from 18 countries jointly wrote to the United Nations Human Rights Council to ask the United Nations to take effective action to stop the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong.

The political leaders, including members of Congress, state and local council members, county magistrates, and city mayors are from 18 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. CCP Moves “Transformed” Falun Gong Practitioners into Beijing Labor Camps during the Olympics

CCP Moves “Transformed” Falun Gong Practitioners into Beijing Labor Camps during the Olympics

(Clearwisdom.net) The Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) recently published Torture Outside the Olympic Village: A Guide to China’s Labor Camps (http://www.humanrightstorch.org/news/guide-to-olympic-village-labor-camps/), which describes persecution incidents and gives directions to forced labor camps near the Olympic Village.

Right after the Guide was published, Beijing quickly transferred all steadfast Falun Gong practitioners away from these forced labor camps and moved in some former practitioners who were “transformed” ( = Implementation of brainwashing and torture in order to force a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong.and had renounced Falun Gong.) The camps treat these ex-practitioners well and allow reporters from around the world to enter the camps and perform interviews. But what the reporters see are false images staged by Beijing.

To reporters who want to conduct interviews, please have several groups go to different camps at the same time. For example, many practitioners were transferred from Beijing to the Shanxi Forced Labor Camp and Shanxi Women’s Forced Labor Camp, while some were sent to Inner Mongolia. These practitioners are locked up and denied any contact with the outside world.

180px-archimedes_sphere_and_cylindersvg.png

The sphere has 2/3 the volume and surface area of the circumscribing cylinder. A sphere and cylinder were placed on the tomb of Archimedes at his request.

Archimedes died c. 212 BC during the Second Punic War, when Roman forces under General Marcus Claudius Marcellus captured the city of Syracuse after a two-year-long siege. According to the popular account given by Plutarch, Archimedes was contemplating a mathematical diagram when the city was captured. A Roman soldier commanded him to come and meet General Marcellus but he declined, saying that he had to finish working on the problem. The soldier was enraged by this, and killed Archimedes with his sword. Plutarch also gives a lesser-known account of the death of Archimedes… Read the rest of this entry »

The woods decay, the woods decay and fall,
The vapours weep their burthen to the ground,
Man comes and tills the field and lies beneath,
And after many a summer dies the swan.
Me only cruel immortality
Consumes: I wither slowly in thine arms,
Here at the quiet limit of the world,

the Three Gorges Dam post

June 21st, 2008 Posted by long leaves

3gorges-before-and-during.jpg

On May 15, 2006, Chinese news media reported that engineers were pouring the last of the concrete to finish the construction of the massive Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River in central China. The dam is intended to provide flood control and hydroelectric power. When all the generators are operational (projected for 2009), Three Gorges will become the largest hydroelectric project in the world.

This pair of images shows the dam in partial completion in July 2000 and again in May 2006. The Yangtze River flows from upper left toward upper right in the images. In 2000, construction along each riverbank had occurred, but sediment-filled water still flowed freely through a narrow channel near the river’s south bank (bottom left). A smaller passage closer to the north bank of the river, where the water appears calmer, is likely a system of temporary locks that allowed for boat passage. A second dam bypass appears to be under construction about 1 kilometer to the north.

By May 15, 2006, the dam spanned the entire river, and a large reservoir had filled behind it, to the northwest. The new reservoir is more than 3 kilometers (more than 2 miles) across just upstream of the dam. White spray shoots through gates in the center portion of the dam. The former locks are much less prominent, and the new ones to the north appear as a linear arrangement of thin, blue rectangles.

The CCP Attacks Falun Gong, Members of US Congress Call for Expulsion of the Criminals

2008-5-30-tianmie-zhonggong-ss.jpg

(Clearwisdom.net) Representatives of the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WIPFG), Epoch Times, and “Quit the CCP” Service Centers held a forum and press conference in Washington, D.C., on June 5, 2008. Spokespersons from the different organizations reported on the recent CCP-instigated incidents in New York in which mobsters attacked Falun Gong practitioners and the CCP-controlled Chinese language media misled the Chinese community, spreading lies to slander Falun Gong around the world through the Internet, video, and other channels in attempts to shift attention away from its own imminent collapse. Congressmen at the forum strongly condemned the CCP and asked the American government to expel the criminals involved.

Vatican: It’s OK to believe in aliens

By ARIEL DAVID, Associated Press Writer Tue May 13, 4:07 PM ET

VATICAN CITY - Believing that the universe may contain alien life does not contradict a faith in God, the Vatican’s chief astronomer said in an interview published Tuesday. The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, was quoted as saying the vastness of the universe means it is possible there could be other forms of life outside Earth, even intelligent ones.

bashfullpope.jpg“How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere?” Funes said. “Just as we consider earthly creatures as ‘a brother,’ and ’sister,’ why should we not talk about an ‘extraterrestrial brother’? It would still be part of creation.”

OZYMANDIAS

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter’d visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp’d on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock’d them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:

Ezekiel’s Commission

1 Then He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” 2 So I opened my mouth, and He fed me this scroll. 3 He said to me, “Son of man, feed your stomach and fill your body with this scroll which I am giving you.” Then I ate it, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth.
